Ricardo Patrese’s win at the 1992 Japanese Grand Prix was the last of his four wins for Williams.

Damon Hill reached a couple of personal landmarks in Japan. In 1994, he set the fastest lap in a race for the 10th time, and the Japanese Grand Prix the following year was his 50th race in the top flight of motorsport.

When Alain Prost set the fastest lap in the 1993 Japanese Grand Prix, it was the 75th time a Williams car had been on top of the timesheets.

Last But Not Least
Alain Prost’s pole position in the Japanese Grand Prix in 1993 was the last in a run of 24 consecutive poles for the team. The run started in France the previous year and included poles for Nigel Mansell, Ricardo Patrese, Alain Prost and Damon Hill. No other team has managed more than 17 consecutive poles.

Williams has set a record eight fastest laps in Japan thanks to Ricardo Patrese (in 1990), Nigel Mansell (1992), Alain Prost (1993), Damon Hill (1994), Jacques Villeneuve (1996), Heinz-Harald Frentzen (1997) and Ralf Schumacher (2001).

Coming Of Age
Damon Hill’s win in 1996 was his last for Williams and Williams’ last in Japan. However, this (his 21st win), put him second only to Nigel Mansell for all time Williams wins. It also clinched his World Drivers’ Championship, which he dedicated to his wife, Georgie.
